Summer Safety Tips For Pets

Summer Safety Tips for Pets!

Great Summer safety tips for pets here…to keep your furry friends comfy during the dog days of summer. Please remember, that the hot weather is just as hard on our pets, as it is on us!

 Tips for Your Pets…

  1. Exercise: Take your pet for early morning, or late evening walks. The pavement can be awfully hard on their paws, it gets hot in the summer! And, provide them with a drink before and after their walk.
  2. Recreation: If you’re thinking of taking your pooch to the park, beach, or on a hike in the heat, you may want to think twice! Lack of water and shade can cause you and your pet to quickly dehydrate. If you do go, take plenty of water! Let them swim…kiddie pools are great for outdoor baths and fun!

  1. Pets in Cars: DO NOT, we repeat, DO NOT leave your pet in a locked car! According to paw-rescue.org; “Even when the outside air temperature is in the 60s, temperatures inside some vehicles can reach the danger zone on bright, sunny days. So many experts recommend not to leave pets or children in parked cars even for short periods if the temperature is in the 60s or higher.” And, if you’re see a pet or a child in a locked car, don’t hesitate to call authorities! Download this great flyer from the Humane Society, for tips on how to help your pet if it is exposed to high temperatures.
  2. Visit the Vet: Have your animal checked regularly for ticks, fleas, and heartworms. Also, check with the Doc to find out if you can give your pet a summer trim.
  3. Keep your home A/C system running! Just like us, pets love a cool place to eat, sleep, and play! If you haven’t had your system checked lately, you may need a tune-up, or even a new HVAC.  Just give us a call, and one of our trained experts will be glad to assist you!

We hope you’ve enjoyed our summer safety tips for pets…have fun with your furry friends and stay safe!

5 Fall Prep Tips From Peck Heating and Air Conditioning

leaves in gutter- rosevilleIt’s officially Fall! That doesn’t always mean cool weather here in our Sacramento region, but it is a good idea to take advantage of this transition time and prepare your home for weather changes that will be happening soon. Here are a few tips to help you prep your home for Fall – you’ll be glad you did them ahead of time!

Clean Gutters:

Clean leaves and debris out of the gutters and downspouts. Check for rust or holes and repair or replace. Add protective screens if necessary. Trim away any overhanging tree branches that may drop more leaves into gutters before the first big rain.

Check Roof:

Inspect entire roof (use binoculars if necessary) for shingles that need replacing or areas that may need to be resealed. If you see areas of concern, have a roofing professional make repairs.

Check Seals:

Inspect all windows, doors, and outlets around the house to see if there are air leaks. Reseal these areas with appropriate types of caulk to weatherproof and save on energy costs.

Change Air Filters:

Change out or clean your air filters if they are reusable. Schedule reminders to change filters through the Fall and Winter season. Clogged filters are hard on your system and can increase your energy costs.
Schedule Furnace Inspection: Make an appointment with a heating and air professional to have your furnace inspected. Have any necessary cleaning and/or repairs completed. The best time to check your system is before you start to really need it in colder weather.

When you’re tackling your Fall prep and you’re ready to make an appointment for a furnace inspection or service, call Peck Heating & Air, serving the greater Sacramento area since 1977! Check out Peck’s Specials page and then give us a call at (916) 409-0768.

Why A/C Maintenance Is So Important

If your air conditioner isn’t that old, seems to be running properly and you remember to change the air filter fairly often, then what is the point of getting your A/C serviced? Why is yearly maintenance necessary?

A/C maintenance is about more than just checking everything to make sure it’s in working order. Think of it like automobile maintenance. By having your car serviced regularly, you make sure that everything is clean and operating properly. This keeps your vehicle running efficiently, costing you less in gas and repairs over time. Not only that, but your car and its parts last longer. Your A/C unit is no different!

The outside condenser unit of your A/C can get clogged up with dirt and debris. Those coils need to be checked, at least annually, and carefully cleaned when necessary. If the condenser isn’t regularly maintained, your condenser unit will have to work much harder to bring the air in and cool it. This results in higher costs and it’s harder on your equipment. The harder the equipment has to work, the more likely it is to break down sooner than it should. Cleaning the coils of the condenser, in addition to the other inspections that happen during a maintenance call, will keep your A/C unit running smoothly.

Since seeing is often believing, one of our Peck technicians recently took these photos of a customer’s clogged condenser, after removing the outer cover. This customer wondered why his air conditioner wasn’t working properly. Now you can see why!

Don’t let this happen to your condenser! Give your A/C unit the regular maintenance and longer life it deserves. Whether you’re in Rocklin, Granite Bay, or the surrounding areas – Peck technicians can help and are just a phone call away. Is It Time To Replace Your HVAC System?

All of a sudden, it feels like Summer in Rocklin, California. When the temperatures jump into the 90’s and 100’s and you have to start using your air conditioner, you might realize that it’s finally time to get a new HVAC system.

How do you know if it’s really time to have a new system installed? Start by asking yourself these questions:

  • Is your system more than 10 years old?

  • Will your older system survive this summer without a service call?

  • Have you already invested in costly system repairs?

  • Have you experienced discomfort from inadequate heating and cooling?

Did you answer yes to any of those questions? Then it might be time to consider your HVAC replacement needs.

New systems are at least 20 to 30% more efficient than older systems, so you’ll start saving money to offset your investment right away. (You may also be able to take advantage of energy rebates to offset your costs.)

Looking at new HVAC systems can feel a little like buying a new car. You want to get the right system for your home and make sure that you are getting estimates from reliable companies. Who Controls Your Thermostat?

HEATING AND COOLING

Your heating and cooling system is the biggest energy guzzler in your home, gobbling up to 45% of your total energy costs every year. It’s always wise to have our heating and cooling professionals analyze your system, but here’s a way you can quickly determine how energy-wise it is. If your system is older than 10 years, it’s needlessly eating up your energy dollars. New systems are at least 20 to 30% more efficient than older systems. If it’s not time to replace your home’s comfort system there are interim ways to trim energy use. First of all regular maintenance is key to getting the best performance you can, regardless of your system’s age. And if we haven’t already installed a programmable thermostat for you, call us to do so. It can save you at least $100 a year in energy dollars.
